Fiano di Avellino |
|
Due to its proximity to the Apennine Mountains, Avellino has a mild microclimate that is ideal for the cultivation of Fiano. Although the Fiano varietal is grown elsewhere in Campania, it is widely considered to achieve its fullest expression as Fiano di Avellino, benefiting from the region's great diurnal temperature variations and mineral rich, volcanic and calcareous soils. The cultivation of Fiano di Avellino is focused around the provincial capital, the old Abellinum, and includes 26 towns within the area. Grapevine Type: Fiano di Avellino 100% Area of Production: Grapevine located in the town of Montefredane (Campania Region -Southern Italy) The “Fiano di Avellino” is a star within the Italian wine environment. It is produced on the countryside hills of small towns near Avellino, in the region of Campania (Southern Italy). The grapevine that gives birth to such an outstanding wine was known by the ancient Romans with the name of “VITIS APIANA” – “Apiana” (“ape” in Italian) – because the bees were attracted by the particular sweetness of its grapes. The Fiano di Avellino is one of the fewest Italian wines that can afford to enter the aging stage. Peculiar Characteristics: A great wine of ancient tradition and culture developed by following a long-loving process using exclusively grapes of the quality known as “fiano.” It features a light yellow color, an intense fragrance, and a rather robust body. Best enjoyed if served with: Caviar appetizers; oysters; mussels; seafood soups; general prestigious seafood. It is perfect as an aperitif. It is extraordinary when accompanying goat cheeses, provided that it has aged. To serve at a temperature between 10-12 Celsius Degrees. Expert Testimonial: “The oldest white wine in Italy. The passing of the years has provided it with a personality that has turned into an unequalled essential elegance.” (Piccinardi – 1982) |
